PETITION PACKETS NOW AVAILABLE
Petition packets are now available in the Clerk’s Office for residents interested in running for city commissioner or mayor in the November election. Candidates must be registered voters of East Grand Rapids and must be an East Grand Rapids resident of at least one year on or before the date of the election to be eligible. Commission candidates must also reside in the ward in which they plan to run.
The petition packet consists of an affidavit of identity, receipt of filing, a copy of the East Grand Rapids City Charter and a nominating petition, in which candidates must submit no less than 25 signatures from registered voters within their ward if running for commissioner, or for mayor, registered voters residing in the City. Packets are due Tuesday, April 25 for any candidate wanting to be on the November ballot.
The following seats are up for election:

- City Commissioner, Second Ward
- City Commissioner, Third Ward
- Mayor

ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATIONS MAILED
Absentee ballot applications were mailed out last week for the May 2 special election.

YARD WASTE PICKUP BEGINS APRIL 3
A reminder yard waste pickup begins Monday, April 3. Grass clippings and small, loose yard debris must be placed in paper yard waste bags or reusable containers. Plastic bags are not accepted. The following are current yard waste pickup guidelines:
- Bags and containers placed for pickup must not exceed 40 pounds or a 32-gallon capacity.
- Ornamental grasses must be tied and bundled and must not exceed 40 pounds.
- Brush must be cut into 6-foot lengths and tree logs may not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
- All items for collection should be placed on the outlawn – the area between the curb and the sidewalk – rather than the street.
- In the spring and summer, it is preferred yard waste is not placed for collection earlier than one day before the scheduled collection day.

KENT DISTRICT LIBRARY: EAST GRAND RAPIDS BRANCH
The EGR branch reminds community members the library will be open for normal business hours, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., during the Corewell Health Irish Jig on Saturday, March 18.

NOMINATE AN EGRHS SENIOR FOR A SCHOLARSHIP
Do you know a member of the EGRHS class of 2023 who deserves special recognition? Consider nominating them for a scholarship. Students may also apply for some of the scholarships themselves.
Thanks to its donors, the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation administers scholarship programs that honor graduating seniors for a variety of qualities.

COREWELL HEALTH IRISH JIG
Drivers and community members are asked to be mindful of race participants during the Corewell Health Irish Jig on Saturday, March 18. The event begins at 8:30 a.m., with participants racing along Breton Road, Hall Street, Woodcliff Circle and Lake Drive.

KENT COUNTY COMMUNITY ACTION
Kent County Community Action needs your input as it plans how best to use resources to meet the community’s needs. This survey is an opportunity for you to provide leaders information that will help inform decisions about KCCA’s services in the future.
Survey participants will be invited to enter a weekly drawing for a $50 utility credit. Complete the survey by Friday, March 17.
