PUBLIC WORKS

BRETON ROAD CLOSURE
Breton Road between Burton and Boston streets will be closed the week of June 5 for utility work. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists can use Boston Street, Plymouth Road and Burton Street as a detour route. Local access to businesses on Breton from Burton will be maintained.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. SREET CLOSURE
Martin Luther King Jr. Street between Fuller and Plymouth avenues will be closed June 6-8 for DTE Energy utility work. The detour route will be Fuller Avenue, Hall Street and Plymouth Road. Local access for area residents will be maintained.

AVOID BLOWING GRASS CLIPPINGS IN STREET
Public Works reminds residents and lawn service providers to avoid blowing grass clippings into the street because the clippings introduce large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus into our waterways, making them perfect homes for algae blooms. Algae blooms denigrate the environment by consuming most of the oxygen in the water, which negatively impacts plants and wildlife.
Instead of blowing clippings into the street, sweep the curb line and deposit grass clippings in your yard waste container or bags for yard waste and compost pickup.

TREES AND SHRUBS: TRIMMING REMINDER
A reminder City code prohibits trees and shrubs from obstructing public ways and clear vision areas. With spring here and more community members out walking, running and playing, residents are asked to make sure their trees and shrubs aren’t blocking sidewalks.
The required height for clearance over a sidewalk is 10 feet. For a corner lot at the intersection of two streets, plants cannot exceed 30 inches in height at the 20-foot-by-20-foot triangular area formed at the corner. Properly maintaining trees and shrubs adjacent to sidewalks and streets helps keep pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers safe.
TALL GRASS
City code allows for a maximum height limit of grass at 5 inches.
