PUBLIC SAFETY

#9PMRoutine: Bring in items, lock them up and turn on lights.

REMINDER TO LOCK UP

Before you head out of town for a summertime getaway, Public Safety reminds you to make sure your vehicles and homes are properly secured. This includes bringing in items, locking the house, outbuildings, garage and vehicles and turning on outside lights to deter theft.

A good way to remember is to join your neighbors in the #9PMRoutine. This national initiative encourages community members to set a daily routine to secure their belongings. Find details here.

WATER AND SEWER RATES
Due to rate adjustments from the East Grand Rapids water and sewer service provider, the City of Grand Rapids, and to accelerate the replacement of East Grand Rapids lead service lines, the City Commission has approved an overall 10% increase to water and sewer rates effective July 1. This will be a monthly increase of $8.95 for the average household that uses 7,000 gallons of water per month.

These rate adjustments are necessary due to the East Grand Rapids community’s water and sewage usage – as calculated by the City of Grand Rapids – and for the replacement of lead service lines within EGR as mandated by the state.

In 2021, the City of East Grand Rapids launched a program to physically inventory all water service lines by the end of 2025 and begin replacing lead service lines. Funding for these replacements comes, in part, from the City’s water and sewer fund. These rates also help cover critical updates and enhancements to our water and sewer infrastructure

For more information about lead service lines and the City’s water and sewer services, visit the website or call Public Works at 616.940.4817.Commission chambers
