City Manager Brian Donovan to Retire

City Adopts Budget
At its Monday, June 4 meeting, the East Grand Rapids City Commission unanimously agreed to adopt the budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
“We are very proud of the budget we’ve put together for this upcoming fiscal year,” Mayor Amna Seibold said. “There are no reduction in city services and no rate increases, which we know everyone will be pleased to hear. Our City is in a strong, healthy financial position that any community would be proud of.”

Reeds Lake Run
Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Reeds Lake Run, sponsored by Huntington and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. All ages can participate in this family-friendly event, which will be held on June 23.

Grand Valley Artists Reeds Lake Art Festival

Construction Projects
Summer construction projects are currently underway with completion scheduled by the end of July, baring any unforeseen circumstances. The exception to this is the Breton Road project, which is a federally-funded project administered through the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The Breton Road project, which will be from Lake Drive to the south City limit, will include removing and replacing the street surface, ADA ramp upgrades, traffic signal upgrades and several areas of road base replacement and spot curb replacement. This project is anticipated to begin on June 18 and be completed in mid-August.

Concerts in the Park

Miss Dig/Utility Locating Information
MISS DIG 811 is Michigan's statewide one-call notification system that was developed in order to provide excavators and the general public the ability to inform multiple owners of underground facilities of excavation with a single call. MISS DIG 811 is a not-for-profit independent company that processes information from excavators and passes that information on to affected utilities. Residents may wonder why flags and paint are placed around the City. These markers are utility locations for work called in by private contractors or the City.

Trees and Shrubs Clear Vision Areas
The City code prohibits trees, shrubs, etc. from obstructing public ways and clear vision areas. As trees and shrubs continue to grow during the summer months, we ask that you ensure they do not impede over sidewalks. The required height for clearance over sidewalk is 10 feet. Clear vision areas at street corners may not have plant height in excess of 30-inches in 20-foot by 20-foot triangle areas adjacent to street corners. Properly maintaining trees and shrubs adjacent to sidewalks and streets helps keep pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists safe.
Tall Grass Reminder
As a reminder, the City code sets the maximum height limit of grass at five inches.
Boats, Trailers and RVs
Are you dreaming of getting your big toys out and ready for the season? Outdoor storage of boats, trailers and RVs is allowed for up to 72 hours on streets and driveways. Otherwise, they must be stored indoors, or in a rear yard only, and then they must be reasonably shielded from view. Not all properties are capable of accommodating such storage, so you might have to seek offsite storage for your “recreational unit.”
Water Quality-Consumer Confidence Report
The City is proud to present our annual Water Quality Report. This report provides important information about your drinking water. We have continued to meet the challenge of providing safe, quality water which meets or exceeds the requirements set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) due to the efforts of our Public Works staff and our partnership with the City of Grand Rapids.
